G’Day #4

23 Dec

We all seem to be sleeping in everyday and it’s amazing! Even the kids are sleeping past 8:30 am. I don’t know if it’s jet lag or what, but I don’t need to know. I’ll just be thankful and enjoy it!

Today was my first run in Australia! What better place to do it than a little sea-side town? I ran from the house to the breakwater and back, with a little stopover on a pier. I kept stopping to take pics, so it was a choppy run. I even ran on a stretch of the famous Great Ocean Walk, which is 91km long. The humidity was really heavy and it was hard to catch my breath…or maybe all the food and beverage I’ve been consuming is catching up with me. Oooh, now that I mention it, I could go for some iced coffee right now…

This one was taken with the panoramic setting on my phone.

Sweet little town!

I think this is the drug store. I love how it’s called a chemist!

When I returned home, we all headed to the beach. I kept thinking that the kids wouldn’t want to swim because they would be too cold, but the sun was poking its head out and the waves were just too fun for the kids to say “no”. They all loved it in their own ways.

Mackenzie, Bella, and Josh took turns boogie boarding.

Deacon made mud-pies and hung out mostly in the sand. Josh did make him brave the cold for a boogie board run, and as expected, he loved it and stayed out there for a few more runs.

Caleb ran up and down the beach with the surf. He was the most animated about it, and if I find the time, I’ll post some videos of all the ocean fun.

Ok, here he is…

Fun in the sun wouldn’t be complete without Solo!

We headed home about 2:30 and made Deubens (Down-under Reubens =) for lunch.

Then we settled in for naps/rest. The kids watched Despicable Me, Josh and Caleb took naps, and I assumed my most favorite vacation position. Lying down under a blanket, but with the ocean breeze blowing on me, with a good book. I found an Alex Cross book here, so I’ve been devouring it every chance I get. I’ve read my last few books on the ipad, and I just have to say that there is something great about a good ol’ paperback!

After naps and rests, we headed back into town. While Josh scoped out the dinner scene, I took the kids to a nearby playground. The weather is PERFECT! I love sunny days with cool breezes.

It’s taken us two days to realize that everything closes up early here! Tomorrow, we’ll head into town in the morning to walk through some shops. Bella and I have been itching to do a puzzle, and we saw some in the window of an Op Shop (which is a second-hand store – Opportunity Shop), so we’ll head there tomorrow. There was also an ice cream shop that I want to try. It has all different and interesting flavors, like ricotta cheese, and Smarties.

We settled on pizza for dinner, but decided to bring it home rather than pay for drinks at the restaurant! Everything is pretty pricey down here, so we’re trying to stretch our Aussie dollars. The boys drove home with the pizza, and the girls and I hoofed it. It’s a great little walk and we took some pics along the way.

We even found a whole clan of Turbo’s! I brought one home for Deacon.

We’re having a blast here! I couldn’t have asked for a better family vacay together and I’m so thankful for this special getaway.

Here are our thoughts for today:

Josh: The beach was really nice.

Mine: Australians are so nice!

Mackenzie: Swimming in the ocean and being at the beach was my favorite!

Bella: I loved being at the beach!

Deacon: My favorite was playing on the beach and at the playground!

Caleb: What does the fox say?
