…and we’re back to winter!

2 May

No complaints here, because:

1) In a couple of months, I’ll be sweating it out in the Philippines, wishing for 40 degree weather!

2) What do I care, I’m heading to Florida today!

So our outdoor fun has been replaced with the best of indoor activities! We’re starting off with blanket cuddles and a movie. Caleb has reached the age where he can sit and appreciate all the educational TV that we watch.

I love how focused and entertained he is, but it’s nothing compared to the eye-contact grin.

What is your weather today and how will you enjoy it???

More Snow!

26 Feb

I became a happy ol’ soul last week when we got two feet of snow!!! I had a ton of stuff to get done, but the girls school got cancelled and I couldn’t resist the snow, so we all bundled up and headed outside.

Caleb’s snow suit made him so chunky that whenever he fell down, he couldn’t get back up by himself. He’d just sit there and wobble back and forth until someone would help him up.

We have yet to build a snowman, but we did dig out two forts for snowball fights.

I loved making snow memories with my girls!

Then we came inside for some snow ice cream! Katie gave us the idea to put coffee creamer in a bowl of snow. The kids loved it! Well, Mackenzie wasn’t a caramel macchiato fan, but she mixed Kool-Aid in with hers. They’ve made it a few times in the days since. so fun!

Later that day, it had warmed up nicely, so Bella went outside by herself and just plopped down in the snow to play. I just stood at the window and watched her. I love seeing the kids enjoy the snow so much. In fact, during my run that day, I saw loads of kids sledding on a huge hill, another girl log rolling through the snow, and another little girl making snow angels in her yard. It made my day!

Now at this moment, we’re getting ready for another two feet of snow!

What is your favorite season???

Let it Snow!

22 Feb

So much has happened in the last week and I’m not sure that there are any segues to connect all the events. I guess I’ll just start writing and see what happens!

I was starting to think that the snow season had come and gone and that spring was on the horizon. I was already out running in shorts, so I thought that the time had come to pack up my sweaters and boots for another 4 years!

So I was beyond ecstatic when it started to snow last Friday night! We had spent the evening at a friends house and when we opened the front door to leave, we saw soft, gentle flakes falling from the sky. Everyone was driving cautiously on the road and I was praying that it would still be snowing at home.

And it was!

It was late, but we let the kids stay up and play for a little while on the deck.

Poor little Caleb didn’t share my excitement.

He was much happier indoors!

After the kids were tucked into bed, Josh and I had a snowball fight. My aim is horrific.

It was such a beautiful night. It wasn’t windy at all and the flakes were big and so gentle. I loved it! I stayed outside for a long time and tried to memorize every last detail so that I can recall them this time next year. I took deep breaths to remember the smell, and even stuck my tongue out to catch a few flakes.

On Saturday, we got all packed up for a weekend away and then headed to Mackenzie’s basketball game. She scored her first basket!! She was so excited, and I may have been too. Jumping up and down on the bleachers would indicate excitement, right?

After the game, we headed out on our road trip down to Hot Springs, AR. We had no idea what this weekend had in store for us. It was to be our last moments with our beloved Grammy. I think I’ll save that post for next time. I love her so much and I want to get it just right (instead of tacking it onto a post of me eating snow…)

What is your favorite snow activity???

Commercial break

30 Jan

We interrupt this series of balmy, beach weather posts for a quick post of our frigid and snowy fun day.

Josh let me sleep in this morning while he got the girls to school, but at 7:45am, I rolled over and remembered that it was supposed to snow during the night and into the morning. I was like a kid on Christmas morning and couldn’t sleep any longer. I ran upstairs, put on some coffee and enjoyed what was happening outside the window. Snow is beautiful!

When Deacon woke up and saw the snow, his reaction could cure even the worst bout of depression. His entire face lit up and he could barely wait long enough to eat breakfast before heading out into the fun snow!

He was sledding outside by himself for a while, but then Josh joined him and I got Caleb all bundled up. He could barely walk with all that puff on him. He waddled around like the marshmallow man from Ghost Busters. Image

He wasn’t too thrilled about all that restriction until he got outside and joined Deacon and Josh in the fun. Josh put together a sled with a rope so he could pull the boys around. They were giggling pretty hard the last time I saw them.

After about 10 minutes, Caleb had enough and wanted to come back inside. His cheeks were rosy! Meanwhile, Josh and Deacon upped the excitement level with some more sledding tricks. Here’s a video:

Deacon wanted to sleep in his snow clothes so that when he got up from nap, he could get right back out there. I assured him that he could definitely go back out, but he had to shed the layers for nap time. It took him no time at all to get geared up again and about 10 minutes after he woke up from nap, I saw him at work digging outside.

He came in and told me how much work he had to do! When the girls got home, they joined Deacon outside and I think Josh did some sledding tricks with them too. I was on hot chocolate and hot apple cider duty inside. It’s pretty chilly out there! It’s hard to believe that a week ago today, I was in shorts and a tank!

What’s for supper on a snowy night???
